Shawnee folds colorful Japanese washi paper into whimsical origami pins and earrings.  New this spring are butterflies and blossoms, and Year of the Ox pins.  Each comes with the Japanese kanji character and a haiku poem.  She will be demonstrating traditional Japanese braiding, "Kumihimo," and selling these creations as bracelets and art-to-wear necklaces.

18th and 19th century Norwegian and Swedish folk art both share a peasant origin, but each country developed separate styles.  In Norway, European baroque and rococo designs were added to functional wooden items.  In Sweden, hanging linen panels were  used to teach bible stories with flowers as space fillers.
